Heart Health and Sleep Apnea - Tips to Make Your Heart Healthier

It's no surprise that heart health is a top concern for people around the world. With someone dying from cardiovascular disease in the United States every 34 seconds, it's a major killer. The good news is that you can find ways to make your heart healthier.

To help you, the American Heart Association (AHA) has created a few useful tips to take care of your heart. They include eating better, getting more exercise, and controlling your blood pressure, cholesterol, and sugar.

The first thing you should know is that lack of sleep can increase your risk of a heart attack. In addition, a lack of sleep can lead to a number of other problems. For example, you're more likely to eat more caloric foods, become overweight, and have poor physical activity levels.

According to the National Library of Medicine, obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with cardiovascular comorbidities. The risk of ventricular arrhythmias, which cause sudden cardiac death, increases in OSA patients. Moreover, OSA is a predictor of increased all-cause mortality, which makes it a potentially important factor to consider.

Although a strong correlation between OSA and cardiovascular disease has been observed, the mechanisms behind these associations are not clear. Some studies suggest that OSA increases inflammation, changes in the blood vessels, and lowers the body's oxygen level. Others have suggested that OSA may cause hypertension. Regardless of the specific underlying cause, the risk of heart failure is higher in younger people with OSA.

In some cases, OSA may be the primary trigger for sudden cardiac death. CPAP treatment can reduce the severity of nocturnal angina, a type of chest pain. You can contact us for more information about CPAP machines and treatments.
